Buttered Puto

This fluffy, slightly sweet steamed cake is topped with cheese or melted butter and is so delectable!

Buttered Puto

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 cup refined sugar
1 1/4 tbsp baking powder
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 1/4 cups water
2 tbsp butter, melted
1 egg
cheese, cut into small slices
water (for steaming)

Instructions:
Prepare the steamer. Pour the water in the steamer.
Cover the steamer lid with a cheese cloth to prevent water from dropping unto the steamed cakes later when steaming.

In a large bowl, Add-in the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Mix well to combine.
Add-in the melted butter, milk, egg, and water. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
Divide and pour the mixture in individual molds.
Arrange the molds in the steamer, then cover with the lid and steam over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Turn off heat.
Remove the lid and top each puto with cheese, cover again for 10 seconds to melt the cheese.
Remove puto from the mold, and arrange in a serving plate.

Serve either hot or cold. Happy Eating!

Buttered Puto are bite-size steamed cakes usually eaten as dessert,
but most prefer to have them for breakfast (with hot coffee or chocolate)
or mid-afternoon snack (usually with "dinuguan" or blood stew).
